During the last nautical miles on board, beautiful landscapes follow each other. The Nordfjord below the gigantic Jostedals glacier and a few miles further south the mouth of the Sognefjord, Norway's longest fjord. The 'skerries' consists of numerous rock islands and is located just before Bergen. In Bergen, where the sea journey along the Norwegian west coast began, we go ashore…
It's time to pack, at 9:00 AM the suitcases have to be in a designated place and an hour later you close the door of your cabin behind you. While packing, Hilde notices an old lighthouse, so she quickly goes outside and this time barefoot. But he insists. You spend the rest of the day wandering on the boat. Unfortunately, the well-known towel method is also used here. Only now there are coats hanging all over the chairs. The sun loungers by the window are especially popular. Once out of the hut, we quickly found a spot at the coffee corner and took a seat with the familiar cappuccino and double espresso (and cinnamon roll). It is foggy outside and therefore not much to see. Fortunately, we brought enough to keep us from getting bored. And then one last lunch, another visit to the buffet and once again there is enough for another round and… no, we'll hold back. After lunch we take a seat in the bistro area and Karel decides to stroll around the deck with a camera for another hour. Just like other days, it is quiet on the deck, next to me there is a birdwatcher with his binoculars looking for gannets. He said they had been seen and at the same time we saw two orcas swimming in front of the boat. He runs inside to get his wife, I'll take the pictures. Two minutes later, again in 4 languages, it sounds that orcas are swimming. Or the deck is packed and not a killer whale in sight. They swam a hundred meters behind the ship. Fortunately we still have the pictures. We can be brief about the trip, it was fantastic. We had beautiful weather, three evenings with Northern Lights, breathtakingly beautiful surroundings and temperatures that used to be the subject of the Elfstedentocht. Yesterday when we were talking to a young couple about the beauty of what we saw, the man had tears in his eyes (and not from the wind). Is it a certainty if you make this trip, certainly not. The same ship was in Trondheim for 5 days two weeks earlier due to a storm, and then you are just a day away. Shall we do it again? Certainly, probably a different location, but we really enjoyed it. Once we arrived in Bergen, we quickly got our suitcases and the bus to the airport was at our doorstep. At the airport we hear that the plane (charter) is already there and we left for Brussels fifteen minutes earlier than indicated. And that ends our blog about the Hurtigruten Northern Lights Cruise.
